There seems to be a love/hate relationship with wireless trackball mouse users. This relationship more than likely occurs because many people are simply accustomed to the traditional corded mouse. The traditional mouse requires total hand movements in order to maneuver the cursor on your screen to where you want it.
With the wireless track ball mouse, there are two basic versions. The first version has a rolling ball on the side of a contoured mouse which also contains a scroll wheel and two buttons for clicking and making selections. This thumb version of the wireless trackball is getting reviews that it feels odd, but does work fairly well. Many gamers who want a wireless mouse sometimes go for this type of wireless trackball mouse. The more “traditional” version of the wireless trackball mouse is the one where the rolling ball is on top of the mouse device. The two selection buttons are located on either side of the trackball device. This wireless trackball, as mentioned before, has some people who just either seem to love them or hate them. Here are some of the pros and cons of the wireless trackball mouse: Pros: 1. The wireless trackball mouse does not have to be moved or manipulated all over your mouse pad. With this device, you don’t even need a mouse pad. It stays in one place. 2. On certain models like the Logitech wireless trackball mouse, you have better fine cursor control. 3. If you are having carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms or have aggravated your wrists, arm and shoulder from repeated use of a regular mouse, many people note that the wireless trackball mouse does not tire your hands and wrists out because you don’t actually have to grip anything. 4. Large distances are easy to travel in regards to maneuvering your cursor around the screen with a wireless trackball. Anyone remember having to pick up your mouse to complete a clicking and dragging process? 5. If you are blessed with coordination for both hands, you could benefit from the wireless ambidextrous trackball mouse that can be used for both lefties and right-handed people. Cons: 1. One drawback of the wireless trackball mouse is that you don’t always have the tactile or visual hints as to where you are on the screen. 2. Angling your wireless trackball mouse could cause your device to confuse the vertical and horizontal movements. Therefore, the device should stay on a flat surface. 3. Some computer games do not work well with the wireless trackball mouse. 4. If you use the wireless trackball mouse with the thumb ball, chances are that you may end up with a repeated stress injury of your thumb or at least develop inflammation. So while you don’t have to be a wireless trackball mouse expert to use it, the device takes some getting used to. If at all possible, try out other people’s trackballs and see if you think you could adapt to a new way of navigating your computer before purchasing one of your own. |
